Région monoclinale, localement plissée, de la partie frontale du Jura (zone préjurassienne) chevauchant le plateau de Haute-Saône (bordure oriental du Bassin de Paris) par l'intermédiaire de la faille de l'Ognon. Cette zone constitue l'ultime front compressif du Jura.
