Description

Description

Biomicrite grise à la cassure, jaunâtre à l'altération, alternant avec des marnes grises partiellement arénitiques. Des oolithes ferrugineuses, originellement chamositiques, mais le plus souvent calcitisées, sont présentes localement. Quelques niveaux très fossilifères.

Geomorphology

Du fait de sa faible épaisseur et de son érosion préférentielle avec le Membre de Saulcy sus-jacent, ce membre n'est pas cartographiable au 1:25000.

Thickness

0,3 m à la localité-type, 2,8 m à Liesberg.

Châtillon Member (previously Macrocephalen-Kalke)

The typlocality is at Sur le Mont, SW Châtillon JU (591 650/239 800).

Lithologically, it is a grey, biomicritic marl at the base and a very fossiliferous (bivalves, ammonites) limestone which contains sometimes iron-ooids. The limestone bed is normally condensed. In the region of Liesberg the limestone is split into several beds interlayered with marls. The thickness varies between 30 cm (typlocality) and 2.8 m (Liesberg) (Dietl and Gygi, 1998).
